The average house contains many drains and you are probably familiar with most of them because they are part of the sink, bath, or shower. However, there is one type of drainage that you may not be familiar with.

Your home's perimeter drainage system is a lesser-known but very important part of your plumbing system. It helps keep moisture out of your basement and this is another system in your home that you need to be aware of. One can call on professionals for perimeter drain tile fitting services.

Its aqueduct design picks up water from the ground that has accumulated over time. The system then takes that water from the house. This makes it less likely that water will seep into your basement walls.

The perimeter drain pipe itself is simply a perforated pipe with a mesh "sock" that covers the ground and is installed underground, running around the perimeter of your home. These tiny holes allow water to enter the pipes which can then be drawn from the bottom of your house.

The pipe is invisible – covered with a layer of gravel of various sizes and then backfilled with soil to allow water to drain into your main sewage system. In older homes, clay or concrete bricks were used for the same purpose.

The most common problem with perimeter drainage is clogging of the system with dirt, roots, and other underground debris. When this happens, water can seep into the walls of your basement. If you see water on your walls, it's time to call a qualified plumber.
